I notice that the current F-Spot image viewer included in distributions such as Ubuntu opens X3F files with no problem at all. The Gimp doesn't recognise X3F files as standard, but the FWRAW plug in does and can manipulate the files with no problems, after which, saving in another format, the Gimp can be used to fine tune as necessary.
It would be nice if Sigma ported Photo Pro to Linux. One would have thought that this would not be a huge project, depending upon what language was used to build it in the first place. If based upon Java, this would be very easy and would open Sigma up to another audience. In general, given the same hardware, Linux tends to be efficient and reliable - just what we need for image processing.
Indeed, with a little thought, Photo Pro could easily become a leading Linux/Unix image processor and steal a march on Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Pentax et al. This would seem worthwhile - there are plenty of discerning Linux users out there after all, many of whom will be keen photographers and would readily appreciate the Foveon approach.
