I would like any improvement in noise at higher iso mainly Stuart, and any possible improvements in flash accuracy with the sigma external units would be great,I think this should be possible, it would benefit sigma greatly to keep faith with existing sd14/15 owners who have after all kept loyal to sigma and helped them to keep the foveon system going.
After all,the sd14/15 is good enough for up to 20x16,enough for most of us who will never afford the sd1!,regards tony

And I am still hankering after a simple grid that could be superimposed on the viewfinder, oh, and a Sigma supplied proper eyecup - maybe the two could be combined into a simple slide-on device?

Well, the SD15 now has a firmware update which appears to be addressing flash accuracy, and adding raw+JPEG capability at least. I don't expect SD14 development is continuing now (maybe users could email Sigma Japan and ask that the changes made for the SD15 flash be applied to the SD14 as well).

Julian, grids are fantastic - the D3 needed a replacement screen to offer one, and I believe SD14 (and thus, 15) alternative screens are available, though I haven't looked into which variations are produced. Sigma could, in theory, produce something closer to Nikon's DX screens with switchable illuminated grids, but only if they can be licensed. Which is probably why you don't find it in many cameras.

Of course, the real answer is for Live View and a grid like the DP series offers to be implemented. There's nothing in the hardware preventing this, the mirror/shutter can do it - it's software, though there are probably other considerations.

Thanks Stuart, have made new 1.02 update to my sd15,all fine, now records raw + jpeg ok, however the external flash still has the usual inaccuracies i,e,correct exposure at tele end with 17-70/18-50 lenses, but 2 stops overexposure at 17/18mm wide end just as before.
Maybe this is due to fault with the inbuilt zoom capability inside the flashguns?
My flash is a ef500,but it has been re-updated by sigma uk to use with sd15,so it should be ok really.
Would be handy if someone can confirm if this still happens with the 530 or 610 flashes,(.
correct at tele settings, but over by 2 stops at wide settings)
Anyone tried this yet(I used f5,6 in ap mode),
Very pleased with update except still flash problem, tony

Can you manually override it? I don't have an EF flash here so I don't know how low the output can go...

Hi stuart, yes its possible to give 2 stops lower by adjusting it in camera flash settings manually with the flash compensation button on the camera front ,but this still means having to reset again at longer focal lengths, not very good really, still same old problem,I would think it should be overcome somehow, but it seems like the flash head zoom function gives too much light at the shorter focal lengths just as before(maybe its the wrong way round as should give more at longer focal lengths really),probably a design fault in flash head?
Perhaps another firmware update could put this right(lowering output 2 stops at shorter focal lengths) eventually, hope its not the same with the sd1!
I have tried nikon system with flash, theres no such problem with them,as you would expect with any so called ttl flash system,it seems to be a bug only with sigma guns when used on the sigma dslrs, though I dont recall such problems when I used the old sd10! Im still confident sigma can put this right.
